For part of its history, the Motorworks Building was known as the Daylight Factory due to the natural light shining through its sweeping warehouse windows which circle three sides of the building. These windows have been fully restored and offer residents spectacular views of our City.

history

First constructed in 1916 and later expanded in 1921, the Motorworks Building was originally a showroom for Jeffery Automobile Co. Many of the aspects of the auto showroom are still visible in the building, such as the two simulated garage doors along the side and back corner of the building where automobiles were driven in and out. The original building contained a large elevator used to move cars up and down between maintenance and the showroom floors; gears from this large elevator have been incorporated into the bike rack sculpture located outside the front door of the building. Two logos of a wheel with an attached wing are embossed on the front of the building. This mark is a precursor to the logo used by the Red Wings of Detroit. These logos have been restored to prominence and proudly welcome you to the Motorworks Building. For part of its history, the Motorworks Building was known as the Daylight Factory due to the amount of natural light shining through its sweeping warehouse windows which circle three sides of the building. These windows have been restored and offer residents wide views of the City.
